Solo Viola (originally the Passacaglia in g minor for Solo Violin).
Heinrich Ignatz Franz von Biber was born in Wartenberg (which is now Straz pod Ralskem, Czech Republic); on August 12, 1644; he died in Salzburg on May 3, 1704. He was known both as composer and violinist, and is best known for his virtuoso violin works, many of which employ scordatura (unconventional tuning of the open strings).
