For: Pf--Vln.Vc.

piano, violin, violoncello - score and parts.
Alexander Tikhonovich Gretchaninov was born in Moscow on October 25th, 1864. His main teachers were Serge Taneiev, Anton Arensky, and especially Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov (who gave him in addition financial assistance, which was vital, considering the fact that Gretchaninov's parents did not approve of his musical study and would not support him), with whom he had a close friendship which only ended in 1908 at Rimsky's death. A few years after the Revolution, Gretchaninov emigrated, first to France in 1925, and then to the United States in 1939. He remained in the U.S.A. for the rest of his life, and eventually became a U.S. citizen. Gretchaninov died in New York City on January 3rd, 1956, and is buried outside the church at Rova Farms, a Russian enclave in Jackson Township, Ocean County, New Jersey.
Composed 1930-1931.
