Contents: Theme and Variations; Abendlied; Gigue; Pastorale; Elegie; Overture -- Joseph Gabriel Rheinberger was born in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, on March 17th, 1839. He was organist at Vaduz Parish Church when but seven years old, and his first composition was performed the following year. He was a prolific composer, his output embracing symphony, concerto, chamber music, opera, and choral music (including twelve masses: one for double-chorus, three for four voices a cappella, three for women's voices and organ, two for men's voices, and one with orchestra; a Requiem, and a Stabat Mater). He is remembered almost exclusively today for his elaborate and challenging organ music, which includes 2 concerti, 20 sonatas, 22 trios, 12 Meditations, 24 fughettas, and 36 solo pieces. Rheinberger died in Munich, on November 25th, 1901.
