AMERICAN PATROL was originally written for piano by Tin Pan Alley composer Frank White Meacham in 1885. An arrangement for wind band was published in 1891. Glen Miller released a 78 single of the march for Victor Records in 1942. The recording reached 15th place on Billboard that year. Typical of the patrol format, the march depicts a military band approaching, walking past, then receding into the distance. This 1968 arrangement for orchestra was completed by Richard Hayman. Instrumentation: 3.2+EH.2+BCl.2+CBsn: 4.4.3.1: Timp.Perc (5): Hp.Pno: Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set).
