The composition, meaning "Before We Came to Jagĵey," is based on the travelling impressions the composer collected on his way to central Cuba. Jagĵey, situated in the Province of Matanzas, is written in a guaguanco-Latin style, which means that special emphasis is placed on the syncopes and off-beats.
