Askese. Salvatores Dei by Minas Borboudakis ist a 26-minute work for mixed choir and orchestra (2(1/2,Picc,AFl).2(1/2,CorA).2(1/2,BCl).2(1/2,Cbsn) — 4.2(1,PiccTpt/2).2(1/2,BTbn).0 — Timp.2Perc — Str). It is based on the homonymous text by Nikos Kazantzakis which deals with man's daily struggle in search of truth and god. The initially very lush sound image is deconstructed more and more to let it implode in an intense way at the end.

The premiere took place on 15 November 2013 at the Herz-Jesu-Kirche, Munich with the Bavarian Radio Orchestra and Choir conducted by Ulf Schirmer.

The full score (EP 12973) is available for sale as part of the Peters Contemporary Library. The performance material can be hired.
