Beyond the Garden by Stephen McNeff is a Chamber Opera in one act with a libretto by Aoife Mannix. This Chamber Opera is inspired by the fascinating relationship between Alma Mahler and her daughter Manon Gropius as it was full of the complexities that often existing between parents and children. However, it is not a biographical work but one about aging and memory. Beyond the Garden was commissioned by Slovenia Chamber Music Theatre with additional assistance from The Hinrichsen Foundation and the RVW Trust and first performed on 5 September 2020 in Cankarjev dom, Ljubljana, Slovenia, with Susan Bickley (Ottilia) and Katja Konvalinka (Klara). The production was directed by Rocc and conducted by Simon DvorĊĦak.
