Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) composed his CANTATA NN. 29: WIR DANKEN DIR, GOTT, WIR DANKEN DIR (WE THANK YOU, GOD, WE THANK YOU), BWV 29 for the installation of the new Leipzig town council in 1731. It was first performed as part of the celebratory service in the Nikolaikirche on August 27. An arrangement of his PARTITA NO. 3 serves as the opening Sinfonia, and he later borrowed music from the second movement to create the "Gratias agimus" in the MASS IN B MINOR. This reprint edition by Wilhelm Rust was released as part of the Bach Gesellschaft Ausgabe (Bach Society Edition).
