DIE GESCHPFE DES PROMETHEUS (The Creatures of Prometheus), Op. 43 is a ballet in two acts by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827). Choreographed by the dancer Salvatore Vigan², it is based on the Greek myth of Prometheus, who stole fire from Zeus in order to create humankind from clay. Completed in 1801, the ballet premiered on March 28 that year at the Burgtheater in Vienna in the presence of the Archduchess of Austria, Maria Theresa.
