Originally planned as the slow movement of a Cello Sonata, Faurİ composed his melancholy Elİgie in 1880. The Sicillienne started life as an orchestral work in 1893 and was arranged by Faurİ for cello and piano in 1898 before finding its place as part of his famous incidental music to Maurice Maeterlinck's playPellİas et Mİlisande. This Urtext edition by leading French music scholar Roy Howat contains a preface, commentary and exemplary presentation of the score. Includes piano accompaniment and separate cello part.
