One of six works by Johann Strauss II (1825-1899) featuring a zither solo, GESCHICHTEN AUS DEM WIENERWALD (TALES FROM THE VIENNA WOODS), OP. 325, was inspired by the Wienerwald, a place known to be frequented by composers such as Beethoven and Schubert. Composed in 1868, the waltz was dedicated to Prince Constantin zu Hohenlohe-Schillingsfĵrst. It premiered on June 9 of that year at a garden party given by its dedicatee and has since become one of his most celebrated works.
