Franz Poenitz (1850-1912) was a virtuoso on the harp and composed complex compositions for his instrument. At the age of six years, the native of West Prussian toured as a harpist. He began his studies in composition at the age of eleven. Most of his adult career he spent as a chamber musician at the Royal Court Opera in Berlin. The "Ghostly Gavotte" is one of his later works, published in 1907.
