These six sonatas (RV 54, 56, 57, 59, 55, 58) were written originally in 1737 for La musette (Dudelsack), viele (Drehleier), flute, oboe, or violin, along with continuo. The first two solo instruments having long been out of use, the work is mostly known as flute or oboe vehicle. Both a keyboard part and a cello part are included to serve as the continuo.
