Lee, one of the outstanding cellists and cello pedagogues of the 19th century, did not compose purely technical etudes in his Opus 100, but rather musically appealing performance pieces. These are romantic character pieces with poetic titles such as Unrest - Souvenir - The Thunderstorm - The Gondolier etc. The carefully edited text follows the first edition of 1864 with the original fingerings and bowings.
