Mary's Song [Alf:00-34876]

In this remarkably fresh new setting of Mary's Magnificat, composer Sheldon Curry imagines Jesus' mother Mary as a young Appalachian woman. The musical surroundings are filled with joy and praise couched in everyday language. The instrumental accompaniment is designed for amateur players of average experience. The addition of violin (written as fiddle) and cello add additional color and emotion. This anthem can be found in an extended version (35058), combined with Simeon's Vision (34879). The 2 can be used separately or as part of an Appalachian Evensong.
