Gabriel Verdalle (1845-approx. 1915) composed stunning and romantic works for his instrument, remembering sometimes to Satie. The "Meditation" was originally called "Adagio" and was renamed by him before publication in 1898. He dedicated the work to his colleague Auguste Berthelier, solo cellist at the Opera. It is now Verdalles most played work.
