Bernhard Gander's Messing 5 is an 11-minute work for brass (horn, 2 trumpets, trombone, tuba). The atomic numbers in the periodic table for the elements copper and zinc provide the basis for the rhythmic and formal structure of Messing 5, which is a dynamic and strongly rhythmic work for five brass instruments. Messing 5 was commissioned by the Wittener Tage fĵr Neue Kammermusik and the WDR and premiered in Witten on 25 April 2021 by Ensemble Schwerpunkt.
