Amy Beach (1867-1944) wrote a number of works for solo piano, including Nocturne, Op. 107, in 1924. Following a brief introduction, a syncopated left hand drives the piece through lush harmonies and an expansive melodic line. A restless middle section leads to a hot-blooded climax, then the original melody returns to carry the Chopin-esque reverie to a calm conclusion. (4:00)
