Perdido is one of the simplest and most performed jazz tunes in the canon. This is Ellington's original arrangement from 1942, but transcribed from a 1959 recording featuring a faster tempo and an extended solo by Clark Terry on flugelhorn. The figures are simple and repetitious and ÂĴeasy to memorize, so the students' attention can be directed to the groove.
