Piobaireachd (pronounced 'pibroch') by Sally Beamish is a 10-minute composition for piano trio inspired by the eponymous old musical form of the Scottish Highland Bagpipe. Like the Piobaireachd itself, Beamish's work is a theme and variations on her own bagpipe melody, however using more contemporary methods of varying and embellishing the theme. This work went on to become the starting point of Beamish's First Symphony. Score and instrumental parts for violin and cello.
Piobaireachd was commissioned by the London Smetana Trio, with funds from the Nicholas Younge Society. The premiere was in Lewes on 1 January 1992. The work is dedicated to the piper Annie Grant. Score and Parts.
