This is the first publication of Florence Price’s Coreopsis – a work that belongs to a surprisingly small body of compositions by Price written for piano duo. Markedly different in style from both the audacious simplicity of the Three Little Negro Dances (1933) and the virtuosity and complex forms of the piano-duet version of the Concerto in One Movement (1933-34), it offers modern collaborative pianists the chance to enjoy the evocative lyricism characteristic of most of Price’s music for piano solo – all in the context of a playful pianistic expression of Florence Price’s love of nature. The volume includes a new adaptation for one piano, four hands, provided by Po-Sim Head and Kowoon Lee along with two prints of Price’s original version for two pianos, all edited by John Michael Cooper.
