River Valley Sketches was written as a short musical depiction of the composer's hometown and the river that runs through it. The inspiration for some of the melodic and rhythmic material comes from the Scottish River Nith and has that great Scottish flare to it. Well scored and clever writing allow for the band members to contribute interesting lines and musical ideas. (4:10)
