In 1848, against the background of the Bohemian uprising for indepence, Smetana founded his 'Lehr-Institut im Pianoforte-Spiele'. With his growing class of students he arranged famous orchestral works for as many pupils as possible, as well as this original Rondo in C (sometimes known as the 'Mlad­' (Youth) Rondo or 'Mozart' Rondo).
