The SAINT JOHN PASSION, BWV 245, is the oldest of the surviving J.S. Bach (1685-1750) Passions, written during his first year as director of church music in Leipzig. It was premiered on April 7, 1724, at Good Friday Vespers at the St. Nicholas Church. Unlike the SAINT MATTHEW PASSION, this oratorio went through several major revisions throughout Bach's lifetime before he finally settled on this 1749 version. Instrumentation: 2.2+EH(1dObd'Amr).0.1: 0.0.0.0: Org.Hpchd: Str (2-2-2-1-1): Soli SATB: Mix Chor. Clarinet parts are included as alternatives to the Oboe Da Caccia (EH)/ Oboe d'Amore parts.
