Smith wrote this jazzy flute quartet for fun, interspersing a spoken phrase periodically within the music. In March 2016, Camerata Musicale Sulmonese (Sulmona, Italy) honored Italian composer Smith* with a day of performances of many of his works, including Scat for flute quartet. (* Smith holds dual citizenship in the U.S. and Italy.)
