Published in 1874, this fourth of seven orchestral suites by Jules Massenet (1842-1912) premiered on March 22, 1874, in Paris at Ch˘telet, Colonne conducting. Titled "Sc¨nes pittoresques," the suite in four movements was dedicated to the composer's friend, E. Paladilhe. The work has proven to be one of Massenet's most popular concert works.
