The SERENADE IN F MAJOR for string orchestra, completed in 1890 by American composer George Whitefield Chadwick (1854-1931), evokes the grace and humor of the European serenade. It belongs to a prolific period of artistic growth that followed his return from Germany where he had studied with composer Carl Reinecke. At the same time, the work displays unmistakable characteristics of American folk music, popular tunes, and hymnody. The manuscript bears a dedication by the composer to the St. Louis Musical Club. The initial publication of the serenade is presented in this Kalmus edition. Instrumentation: String Orchestra (8-8-5-5-5 in set).
