Faure wrote his Sicilienne for a project that was eventually abandoned, but this gorgeous melody could not be. He later arranged it for cello and piano and eventually as part of the theater orchestration for Pelleas et Melisande. 110 years later, Melanie Thorne would envision the piece as a clarinet quartet and use her arranging chops to bring forth an outstanding "new" addition to the repertoire.
