"Dona nobis pacem" is less a prayer to God - although it certainly is one - than an appeal to humanity. "Give (yourselves) peace". A pious hope, perhaps, as is the hope that such (restrained) art can bring about any change. And yet, hopeless as it may seem, culture is the only thing we can put against war and terrorism - culture characterized by sympathy and tolerance."
