Suite Alabama: A Jazz Sonatina [Alf:00-31464]

Melody Bober's Suite Alabama: A Jazz Sonatina explores the state of Alabama through the three movements of a sonatina. The Southern Longleaf Pine, the official state tree, is represented in the first movement, Longleaf Pine Boogie, a spirited piece written in boogie style. The city of Mobile and its coastline are highlighted in the second movement, Moonlight Over Mobile Bay, a reflective, lyrical piece. The final movement, Yellowhammer Stomp, captures the rousing state nickname musically and closes the suite with a series of octaves, chords and glissandi.
