French composer Henri Rabaud (1873-1949) composed the incidental music for an adaptation of Shakespeare's THE MERCHANT OF VENICE (LE MARCHAND DE VENISE) by writer and Rabaud librettist Lucien Nİpoty. For the incidental music, Rabaud arranged and orchestrated pieces composed by the various musicians of Queen Elizabeth's court. From this music, Rabaud extracted three SUITES ANGLAISES DU XVI SIECLES (ENGLISH SUITES OF THE 16TH CENTURY). This 1st Suite is in four movements: I. Allegro (music by John Bull; II. Andante (music by William Byrd); III. Allegro (music by Giles Farnaby); IV. Lent (music by Giles Farnaby).
