Likely written by Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) in 1763, Symphony No. 16 in B-flat (Hob. I:16) was among the first symphonies written when Haydn was employed by the EsterhĦzy family. In three movements, the work includes the following instrumentation: 0.2.0.[1]: 0.0.0.0: Str (4-4-3-3-3 in set; with solo VC) (Cl is included as sub. For Ob.2) (Hns parts do not exist in this edition). The musicians employed by the EsterhĦzy family at the time suggest that the inclusion of horns was possible, and some recordings/performances include horns (doubling other instruments), but no horns are listed on this original score, nor are there any horn parts.
