In his canzonas, Conversi combines the more popular tone of the villanella with artistic refinement approaching the madrigal. From the madrigal, the canzonas adopt a greater interest in contrapuntal skills, usually of a much lighter nature. Even the darker moods are but a passing shadow on a brighter surface.
