Also known as "FARE THEE WELL" and "10,000 MILES", THE TURTLE DOVE is an English folk ballad. First published in John Payne Collier's A Book of Roxburghe Ballads in 1710, the song depicts the farewell of a lover preparing to undertake a long journey and a promise to stay true until everything is accomplished. This arrangement for orchestra by Glenn Winston Cassler (1906-1990) was dedicated to the St. Olaf College Orchestra and conductor Dr. Donald H. Berglund. Instrumentation: 3.2+EH.2+BCl.2: 4.2.2+BTbn.1: Timp: Hp: Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set).
