Trying to alleviate a troubled marriage between his friends Joseph and Amalie, Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) rewrote a lullaby he had written for their newborn son. Later, he complemented it with another song, "Gestliches Wiegenlied", which adapts the carol "Joseph, Lieber Joseph mein", publishing them together as Opus 91. This song is here arranged for orchestra by William Ryden as VARIATIONS ON A CHRISTMAS CAROL. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: 4.2.3.0: Timp: Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set).
