ZaŻs by Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683-1764) was first performed on February 29, 1748 at the Opİra in Paris. It is a pastorale hİroŻque, a form of the opİra-ballet genre of French Baroque opera that draws subject material from pastoral poetry. ZaŻs tells the story of the genie ZaŻs, who disguises himself as a shepherd to win the love of Zİlide, a shepherdess. After proving he is willing to give up his magic powers for his love, Oromases, the king of genies, grants the couple immortality so that they might marry. ZaŻs is especially known for its spectacular and dramatic overture, which depicts the Palace of Oromases and his throne made from the four elements. Instrumentation: 2.2.0.2: 0.0.0.0: Perc(1): Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set).
