Arnold Mendelssohn was born on December 26th, 1855, in Ratibor (Province of Silesia). Felix was a distant uncle. Paul Hindemith was among his students. He died in Darmstadt, Germany, on February 18th, 1933 (after which his works were banned in Nazi Germany because of his Jewish heritage).
