. und Schnitt! - ten pieces for soprano recorder for young and old film lovers.
.. and cut! is a collection of atmospheric, witty, and varied modern pieces appealing primarily to children and young people, but also to interested adults. Modern playing techniques and forms of expression are imparted here in an uncomplicated and pleasant way. The pieces in " .. and cut!" can therefore also serve as an attraction to the world of modern music. The pieces are intentionally kept short and are also suitable for competitions. The subjects, taken from film and television, have been chosen as they are well known to children and young people and contain atmospheric pictures or puns related to the subject of "film". For each piece the players perform they can imagine a short mini-film. They are given suggestions in the playing instructions, but no bounds are placed on their imaginations. With other kinds of music, it can also be helpful to think of the stories or dialogues to make music come alive to children. Each piece has its very own character and in each case different compositional and playing techniques are used. In some pieces, atmospheric pictures are created (horror film, oriental fairy tale, thriller), in others there are puns (quiz, t[h]riller), short stories are told (western, nature film), and there is also a musical joke (newsreader with hiccups). In performing this music, the general principle is to play with expression, and this skill is also an important structural element in playing any other kind of music. Exaggeration and theatrical elements are very much called for here. The pieces may be played separately or or some together in one performance. An announcer leads the audience through the programme in which various players present the mini-films. The performance can also be enhanced by means of suitable costumes (e.g. News - jacket and tie; Oriental Fairy Tale - oriental dress; Nature Film - pith helmet; Horror Film - monster outfit; Western - cowboy hat; Love Film - heart on cheek, etc.). Popcorn could be provided for the audience and, of course, there could even be commercial breaks .. Above all, these pieces are meant to be lots of fun - for the players and the audience!
