Editions Orphée has published this lively composition for classical guitar by Carlos Barrientos, based on Honduran folk dance the Xique (or Sique). The name of the dance itself is onomatopoeic, and the music imitates the scraping sound of the sandals dancers wear. The title refers to a cry that abruptly interrupts the dance and inspires a dance-off between different coplas (couples) on the dance floor. Barrientos named this piece as his "response to the Xique music that [he] first delighted in as a boy." For the advanced player.
