Leo Delibes was born in Saint-Germain-du-Val, now part of La Fleche (Sarthe), France, on February 21st, 1836. He is famous today mostly for the present ballet; Sylvia, his other ballet (which Tchaikovsky in particular valued very greatly); and for his opera Lakme, which contains the famous "Flower Duet" (see EP7589). Delibes died on January 16th, 1891, and is buried in the Cimitiere de Montmartre in Paris.
