Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (1710 - 1736) was an Italian composer, violinist and organist. He created his lifes work, during the years 1939 to 1945 comprising 25 volumes! They contain vocal and instrumental music, including a number of operas, of which the gay farce La serva padrona and // maestro di rnunca are still heard today, and also the Slahat Mater, which represents one of the pinnacles of the church music of the 18th century.
He died at the age of 26 in Pozzuoli from tuberculosis.
The dances in this book are taken from various instrumental works of the composer. In order to facilitate their performance by stringed instruments, bowing marks have been added where necessary.
