This setting of Susanne un jour is one of 38 different surviving versions of one of the most widely set texts of the Renaissance, a chanson spirituel by Guillaume Gueroult. The 5-part setting by Lassus is, of course the most well-known one: this was frequently intabulated, and was used as a basis for elaborate improvisations by Dalla Casa, Bassano and Francesco Rognoni.
