Old English Pieces -sc. Contributors: Anonymous. Recorder Trios (SSA). Score. Publisher's category: Recorder Trios.

It is striking that, inspite of the numerous references to the recorder in English literature at the turn of the 16th century, relatively little English music was written expressly for this instrument. However, closer inspection reveals that a large proportion of the instrumental works published could be played by any instruments which happened to be available. The frequently encountered term "consort" meant a setting, a family of instruments, or a piece of music intended to be played by such a family.
