The compositions by the Swiss Joseph Lauber (1864-1952) who lived half of his life in the 19th century and the other half in the 20th century, are related more to the late Romantic period than to the modern one. His early works show the influence of German Romantic music culture; later he studied in Paris and was influenced by French composers like Massenet and Debussy; he also had a strong sense of patriotism for the Swiss music tradition.
