Quartet Op.21.
Carulli, Ferdinando.

Guitar Ensemble.
For: 4Gtr.

Ferdinando Maria Meinrado Francesco Pascale Rosario Carulli was born in Naples, Italy on February 9, 1770. He was one of the most famous and prolific composers for the classical guitar (writing over 400 works for the instrument in the space of 12 years), and the author of the first complete classical guitar method, which continues in use today. Carulli's first instrument was the violoncello, but at the age of twenty he discovered the guitar, to whose study and advancement he thereafter devoted himself (there being no professional guitar teachers in Naples at that time, he taught himself from that moment onward). He developed into a gifted performer, to such an extent that his concerts in Naples became so popular Carulli soon found himself touring Europe. After a very successful tour of Paris (it was then known as the 'Music Capital' of the world) he made it his new home, there to spend the rest of his days. He died on on February 17, 1841.
