Sergei Ivanovich Taneiev was born in Vladimir (Russia) on November 25th, 1856. He was a student of Tchaikovsky, and succeeded him at the Moscow Conservatory in 1878. His own students included Scriabin, Rachmaninov, Gliere, Juon, and Medtner. Sergei Taneiev died in Dyudkovo (near Moscow) on June 19th, 1915.
