They were carefully selected to motivate children in New York public schools. Music of the Caribbean, Africa, South America, Balkans and many more have melodies and beats that are irrisistable to children and adults alike. These are intended for groups of children beginning to learn the recorder. Only 3 notes, B, A, G, have been used in the pieces. Adding the percussion enlivens it immesurably. In much of the pieces, students can contribute as part of the accompanying ensemble line as leading soprano recorder plays.
