Lassus setting of the Christmas hymn, Resonet in laudibus, is one of many thatJoseph, lieber Joseph mein, goes back at least to the fifteenth century. There are many settings from the end of the sixteenth century, including ones by Jacob Handl, Michael Praetorius and Hieronymus Praetorius (a most attractive 8-part version is published in EML 190).
