Eugen Francis Charles D'Albert is remembered best as a virtuoso pianist, greatly praised in his lifetime for his performances of Beethoven's works, and his opera Tiefland. He was born in Glasgow to an English mother and a French/ Italian father. He died in Riga, Latvia, on March 3, 1932.
