This work was a collaborative effort of Frederic Nicolas Duvernoy (1765-1838) and Martin Pierre Dalvimare (1772-1839), well known virtuosi on the horn and harp, respectively. They produced the piece as an Imtermezzo for the ballet "Daphnis et Pandrose" by Etienne Nicolas Mehul, which . premiered in 1083 in Paris. It proved such a success that it became an obligatory part of the performances and is specified as Number 13 in the score.
